    Hello.
My name is Kaitlyn Watson and I am in year 11 at Eden Marine High school. I am currently a tourism student at Bega Tafe, and for my tourism work placement I chose to do my placement at the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre in Eden, simply because

I adore marine creatures and thought it would be a good opportunity to help out with the Whale Festival and the schools visiting.

Whilst participating in various jobs at the marine discovery centre, I learnt many interesting facts. One of these includes the fact that the carbon dioxide we release into the air doesn’t just pollute the air, but also enters the oceans and mixes with the water creating an acid which destroys our coral reefs. I also learnt that when a dolphin sleeps it sleeps with only half its brain, and then switches sides so that it can continue to swim and not drown.

I also got to feed the marine life and listen in on a very interesting whale talk. I helped to set up for the Eden Whale Festival and helped Jillian present exhibits and perform science experiments with several school groups. I also got to meet and greet many visitors to the centre, assist at the touch tank and observe some guided tours.

I really enjoyed my week at the Marine Discovery Centre and found my employers to be very nice and rather fun.
