Grey Nurse Sharks (Carcharias taurus) aka Sand Tiger Shark, Ragged-Tooth Shark or Labrador of the Sea. They have in the past had a bad reputation as a man eater but are now known to be quite gentle and are a magical sight for divers. They are also critically endangered along the east coast of Australia according to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act 1999).

The Nature Coast Marine Group has been carrying out a survey project in the Batemans Marine Park area. As part of this they have put together a Youtube video of their work.

The data from the research work is being shared with NSW Fisheries, the Batemans Marine Park and other organisations involved in work on grey nurse sharks. The project has also gathered data on Black Cod in the Batemans Marine Park area. The information  gathered by the Nature Coast Marine Group is important to give a local ‘evidence-based’ quality to their advocacy work.
