We would like to congratulate proud mother Morticia on her beautiful new children, all 1000 of them! As you may have guessed Morticia is not human. She is the lovely gloomy octopus living at the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre.

The octobabies as they have come to be known were hatched on Monday December 10 after a one month incubation period in their eggs. While they are still in the eggs their mother is devoted to them and will never leave their side not even to eat. Sadly this doesn’t end well for the mum, she will pass away not long after the babies hatch.

We are lucky enough at the centre to have Dr Steve Eggins from the ANU here to capture the beauty of these babies.
