Whale watching

The typical Sapphire Coast whale window runs from about May to November. Humpbacks pass north around May–July and south around August–November, with many close sightings concentrating in spring. From Eden you can watch from headlands or join a licensed boat; land is enough on a good bay day.

Marine discovery

Family marine discovery near Eden still starts on a tide-safe rock platform and in well-interpreted museum or aquarium spaces. The 2010 Eden Marine Laboratory opening is real history; it is not a promise that a particular centre is open this week.

The national park most visitors mean is Beowa, renamed in 2022. It splits around Twofold Bay: Pambula–Haycock for lakes and surf beaches, Green Cape for rocky cliffs, camping, and the multi-day Light to Light walk from Boyd’s Tower toward Green Cape Lightstation.

Beaches

The best beach days around Pambula and Merimbula mix one sand hour with one rock-platform hour on a falling tide. Wear shoes, turn one stone at most, and put it back. The 2011 “beachcomber” heritage posts were education notes, not a treasure hunt.
