SCMDC is joining forces with NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service and BirdLife Australia to conduct 2 days of workshops focusing on local shorebirds.  The workshops will be held on 28th & 29th November from 9:30am till 4:00pm, with Day 1 centred around the Marine Discovery Centre.  The first day will focus on learning about the diversity of shorebirds along the southern NSW coastline.  You will hear about the NSW Shorebird Recovery Program and how you can be involved, learn a little more about identification of species and take a field trip to convince you that shorebirds don’t all look the same.

The second day will start in Merimbula at the National Parks office where you can learn about the conservation outlook for beach-nesting shorebirds, including our critically endangered Hooded Plover, and how challenging it is for them to survive when they nest in habitats that are popular for human recreation.  The day will finish with a field trip on one of the local beaches known to support nesting shorebirds.

Community members are invited to book for the workshops by contacting Jenny Robb or Kerryn Woodat the Discovery Centre on 02 6496 1699 or email:  admin@sapphirecoastdiscovery.com.au

Places are limited so people are urged to book early, with bookings closing at 5pm on Friday 23rd November.
