• Whale experts galore!!

    This year’s Eden Whale Festival brings no less than 5 expert speakers to our town to talk about their specific areas of expertise.  The line up is very impressive indeed:

    Tonight Thursday 1st November 6pm for a 6:30pm start at Eden Country Club (Golf Club) (FREE ENTRY):

    NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service have put together an informative evening on our large sea-dwelling mammalian friends.

    * Geoff Ross, New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service Coordinator of Marine Fauna Programs, will speak about management of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in NSW and outline the complex processes involved in whale disentanglement.

     

    * Fiona Bartlett the Director of Cetacean Conservation Management Section – speaking about cetacean management from a Federal government perspective.

    * Graham Moore, NPWS Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Conservation Officer speaking about the unique relationship between Indigenous people of this country and whales and dolphins.

    Saturday 3rd November at the Discovery Centre (Entry into Centre $5 per person – FREE for Associate Members & Annual Pass holders):

    3pm:  Dr Danielle Clode, author of Killers in Eden – Danielle will talk about the amazing intelligence of Killer Whales and how they used teamwork with humans in Twofold Bay to capture whales

    4:30pm: Natalie Schmitt, PhD Candidate (ANU) with the Australian Marine Mammal Centre.  Nat will amaze the audience with stories of her antarctic research voyage including showing some spectacular footage of her work in that challenging environment.
