    The Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre offers a wide variety of exciting, educational, hands-on programs for school groups ranging from K – 12.

    Rocky Shore Ramblerocky shore ramble shellys

    Discover the creatures that inhabit our rocky shore
    Cost: $8 per student
    (1.5 hrs, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Rocky Shore Research

    Take an in-depth look into the life on a rock platform and what factors influence the biodiversity there.

    Target audience: Senior biology students
    Cost: $10 per student (2hrs, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Sapphire Snorkel Safari

    Snorkelling

    Dive in and experience a guided snorkel, discovering the beauty of the life on our coast. Mask, snorkel and fins provided. We have a limited number of wetsuits available.
    Run by a qualified SSI snorkel instructor.
    Target audience: ages 12+ (good swimmers)
    Cost: $20 per student (minimum cost $100 per snorkel session)

    Fishing for Answers

    A look into the local fishing industry and a tour of the fish processing plant.
    Cost: $8 per student (2hrs, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Inside a Fish

    A real dissection investigating the internal and external anatomy of fish.
    Target audience: ages 12+
    Cost: $10 per student (2hrs, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Worming Around

    Investigate the hidden world of the Galeolaria and the creatures it lives with.
    Target audience: Senior biology students
    Cost: $8 per student (1.5hrs, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    How it Formed

    Take a trip to a local beach and discover how it formed, the processes that shape it and see some of the life that inhabits our sandy shores.
    Cost: $8 per student (1hr, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Crazy Critters

    Crazy Critters is a hands-on marine science outreach program that utilises live marine animals, fun facts, games and interactive science activities to engage and inspire students to appreciate and care for the marine environment in the comfort of their own classroom.
    Target audience: K – 6
    Cost: $150 per session (1hr, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Whale Wise

    Whale Wise is an engaging interactive workshop that investigates the beauty and biology behind our oceans gentle giants.
    Discover how to identify whales, the true size of them and feel real whale bones in your own school.

    Target audience: K – 8
    Cost: $150 per session (1hr, group size – min. 10 max 30)

    Inside a Fish

    Have our qualified marine education officer visit your school to run this fun and educational science program. Inside a Fish allows students to explore the anatomy of a fish through an exciting hands-on experience. In groups they will dissect a fish while learning about both their internal and external anatomy.

    We will provide the fish (donated by Southland Fish Supplies Eden), worksheets, an optional additional presentation on fish anatomy prior to the dissection and we do all the messy set-up and clean-up.

    Target audience: 5 -6 & 7 – 10
    Cost: $250 per session (1.5hr, group size – min. 10 max 30)
