The Marine Discovery Centre regularly hosts spectacular speakers, amazing activities and other fun events for you to join in.

    Annual Marine Science Forum

Each year the Marine Discovery Centre hosts its Annual Science Forum which  are open to the general public and feature a number of well known researchers giving presentations about their specific area of expertise. Different themes are chosen each year which focus and highlight various marine-themed topics. Past forums have included titles such as “Marine Extremes“, “Food for thought“; focusing on food we harvest from the sea; and in 2017 we focused on marine debris with a forum called “Turning the tide on Trash“.

In 2018 we are again revisiting the themes of marine debris and other human induced problems in our oceans with a forum titled “How blue are our oceans: What have we done and what can we do?” It will be held on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th June. Stay tuned for more information and tickets will be going on sale soon.

The Eden Whale Festival is an annual community event, highlighting the southern migration of the humpback and other whales.

For one weekend each year, the rich maritime and whaling history of this port on the Wilderness Coast becomes the centrepiece for a weekend that somehow seamlessly links all things whale. There’s a spectacular street parade, vibrant markets showcasing and selling the work of local artisans, great local food and wine, educational marine displays and presentations, quality children’s entertainment, live music and – of course – the best whale watching experience in Australia. Visit – for a whale of a time!
