Education

Education about the temperate marine environment is our core objective. The Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre offers educational opportunities for every age from pre-school to tertiary students and the wider community. Our Marine Teacher Steve White has the qualifications and experience to ensure that our School and Holiday Programs meet the highest standards. All School programs have been designed to fit with the curricula of NSW, ACT and Victorian schools. A wide variety of subjects is available – you may choose from our own discovery programs or design your own. All school programs offer comprehensive pre- and post-program resources and can be any time, any length, for any age student, at your choice of location and covering any subject. We aim to meet all your marine education needs. Schools can contact Steve by calling the office on 02 6496 1699 or emailing on admin@sapphirecoastdiscovery.com.au . We also conduct Community Education programs, including inviting visiting marine scientists to give presentations to the public on a variety of subjects. We hold an annual Marine Science Forum where a series of presentations are offered on a certain theme. The 2010 Marine Science Forum will be held from 19th-21st March 2010 with the theme of ‘Living on the Edge’. Keep checking the website for more details.

Seaweed Workshops

In conjunction with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, and led by our Research Advisory Group Chairman Dr Alan Millar and his colleague Dr Nick Yee from Elgin & Associates, we will hold a series of Seaweed Workshops in November 2009 and February 2010. For more details on the Seaweed Workshops,
