Hagfish, oysters and monsters from the deep! All in a days work for this German backpacker

My name is Anna Goeldner, I’m a German backpacker and came here to Eden to work on the Eden Whale Festival for just 3 days. Thanks Deb for arranging the job in the Marine Discovery Centre!! And my plan was to stay here just for 3 days, but at the end I stayed here for 5 weeks and worked here in the Centre.
When I’m back home in Germany I want to study Marine science, so I was very happy to work here in the Centre and learn how to use English words that relate to Marine science ad my work in the future.
Here in the Centre I researched information for the new Deep-sea exhibition, painted the wall for this exhibition, went with Jill on education programs that included oyster tours on the Pambula and Merimbula Lakes, Marine Debris at Tathra Primary and fish dissections with Ulladulla High. I also conducted a dissection of a hagfish, during that I saw the slime-gland, intestines and the big layer of muscles. I went as well to the rock pools and went snorkeling and collected some animals for the touch tank, like sea urchins, snails and crabs. And I prepared the food to feed the fish.
In that period of time I learned a lot about what kind of job you can do, if you study Marine science. And some people, who know me very well, feel and know that this might be the kind of work I want to do when I finished my study.
It was nice to be here thank you Jill, Kerryn and all the nice Volunteers here in the Centre.
