• Dinosaurs are coming to town

    by  • July 12, 2013 • Announcements, Events • 0 Comments

Roaring, moving dinosaur replicas, real Australian megafauna bones,  stories about Australian and Patagonian extinct beasts, lively public forums debating major events during the evolution of life on Earth, prizes and giveaways –is what you can experience at “Dinosaurs Down Under”, a brand new travelling paleontological road show that hits the road for National Science Week (10 – 18 August 2020).

The roadshow displays moving, life-like dinosaur models, and offers interactive hands-on fossil experiences, including the opportunity to hold the bones of real Australian mega-fauna (like the giant wombat, Diprotodon) or touch fossilised ancestors of the Wollemi pine.

Eden is the eleventh destination for the National Dinosaur Museum’s brand new “Dinosaurs Down Under” road show. It will be a free event as it is part of National Science Week, a Federal Government initiative.

    Date: Thursday, August 15 2013

Time: 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Where: Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club, 175 Imlay Street, Eden, NSW, 2551

A Wollemi pine seedling will be donated to Eden along with a memorial plaque and will be planted as a living memento of the Centenary of Canberra. Wollemi Pine is a “living dinosaur” of the plant world, one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees with a 200 million year long history. Wollemi pines lived side by side with Dinosaurs during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, for about 140 million years, silently witnessing their rise and extinction.

Invited guest speaker paleontologist Marton Rabi from Hungary will be presenting a lecture at the Fishermen’s Club on the 15th of August. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions about Australia’s prehistoric past and about the life of a researcher.

Don’t miss this chance to take a step back in time and meet the dinosaurs.
